Shipping an inboard from Britain to USA

Does anybody know what the duty/customs situation is if I buy a secondhand engine at home (in the UK) and ship it to my boat in the USA? It's an old 30hp diesel.
Any knowledge of necessities and loopholes would be marvellous.
