I''d vote for DVD (but I think your distributor has decided on both). Here''s why. The listing on the web site lists the subject matter which logically divide up into chapters. The program, which could be viewed as much as an educational resource and viewing entertainment, is much more easily accessible by chapter on DVD.

Here''s an option: put it on CD in MPEG-1 format. Given the length, it might take 2 CDs but it could easily be viewed on a laptop which many would have on a boat... where the information might be more useful than in a house. (Def-house: poorly built boat, hard aground)

CD video with an HTML UI is a great way for people to instantly access video clips, even long ones.

Since you shot it on Hi-8, you have reasonably good quality to start with and whatever media you use, it should look good.

Hope that helps.

One more thing... CD video with MPEG 1 subverts the video format problems (NTSC, PAL, SECAM). It will work on virtually every Mac & PC.

DVD is the way to go for this- better quality, smaller package, and more robust to the elements. The only concern are the country codes for various areas. This is also the case with VHS tapes as well- I purchased a tape in Germany and it wouldn''t work when I returned to the USA. I think the DVD can be produced without such a restriction. Look forward to seeing the footage.

Fair Winds,
C.

No one has yet mentioned the consideration of space - 3 DVDs take up about the same volume as 1 tape. I suspect that as sailors begin to carry more of these on their vessels, either for entertainment or reference, the space they take up will become part of the equation.

Lynn and Larry, please see our modest ebsite for our Hudson River & LI Sound cruising tapes. We have yet to offer DVD versions. Please email me back-channel and I''ll explain
why "not yet"...but soon...and what we plan to do when we do. Did that come out right?
