English solo sailor arrives in Hobart

An English teenager has docked in Hobart halfway through his attempt to sail solo around the world.
Mike Perham is aiming to be the youngest to complete the feat.

Personally I'm not sure I approve but I guess you have to admire his spirit.

Here's Zac Sunderland's blog. He's the other teen currently attempting a circumnavigation, but doing it on his own resources rather than being funded by his father, like Mike is.

There's clearly a different philosophy between the two boys attempts. Zac bought his own boat and prepped it. IMHO, he is doing this more for himself than anything else. Mike on the other hand, had his boat chartered for him by his father, who hired a world class sailor to train and prep him and two other sailors to prep the boat. I get the feeling he is doing it more for his father than himself—not to take anything away from his accomplishment thus far...

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Interesting to compare the two, and then look back to Robin Graham and his "Dove"s some 30-40 years ago.

Times have definitely changed!
