I knew things were bad, but.....

This pretty much confirms just HOW bad the economy is.

I noticed my new West Marine catalog seemed kinda light. Just threw out the old 2008 catalog this weekend. It had over 1300 pages in it.

The new one has 720.

I am hopeful that things won't get worse in 2009 and will improve in 2010. I've yet to be convinced however.

i wonder if they are making the print or even specific items smaller, to save on printing costs. or maybe they are just trimming items that they carry muiltibles of, i mean why have 5 pages of pics of harken blocks, with each size shown, just show half the sizes and give a chart with all of em

I spoke with someone there about that a few weeks ago. There's more available online than what is included in the printed catalog. Maybe they'll lower their prices with all the money they're saving... HA!

They may have the same number of products, but the catalog design could be using fewer photos, smaller type, etc to reduce printing and mailing costs.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
