Eastwind's maiden voyage

It's our new old boat recently renamed Eastwind and our first sail on a keelboat. A double first! Or a triple? We put her in the water Saturday with much help from our friend Kevin. My wife, Pat and I slept aboard last night and then took her out with help from another friend, Mac, today for our first sail and Eastwind's maiden voyage.

It was Loyalty Days Regatta on the bay for Yaquina Bay Yacht Club where we're some of the newest members and where we took lessons and got the bug last fall. One of the pics is of a line of smaller boats (I forget what they called the class) that we were dodging on our way back.

We had some issues with the jib roller furler but I don't think it's anything more than setting it up right. We were in such a hurry to get going that we never had the mast up or tried out the rigging until we got to the ramp. It was a short day but now we're in the water and can go when we want and work out the bugs.

We had a blast!

I worked on the R/V Wecoma for a year, a few years back.

It was a pleasure to sail with you on your maiden voyage. Newports' YBYC is a club bent on teaching about the wonders of the winds on the ocean and our place in them. This is the beginning of a magnificent affair and I was honored to be your first mate enjoying the splendor of the bay and her bounties.

I think I have a line on how to fix that blasted furler. I found a manual online for a similar but newer model and that adjuster, washer and nut on the underside of the drum is key. The line was wrapped around the drum the wrong way, too. The manuals say counter clockwise and mine was clockwise. I'm going to work on it as soon as we get to the coast Friday afternoon and sail as much as we can Saturday and Sunday.
