EXPEDITION to Hemingway Marina, CUBA

Greetings,

My name is George, 26 y.o., Chicago native and I am putting together a unique cycling expedition across Cuba this winter. I am a sailor and would like to get to the island by boat this month, preferably from FL.

I have a positive attitude and 2 seasons experience racing Tartan 10-meters on Lake Michigan.

Referrals appreciated too.

Cheers,

You had better check and recheck your paperwork. It''s illegal for people to do this, you know. There''s an article somehwere on the net I read recently that had some cyclists go to Cuba through a travel agent or something in Toronto, as they mislead the American tourists on making them believe it was legal, the tourists were fined several thousand dollars with one ladies fine coming to over $8k.

They''re tightening down on people wandering over there without doing the appropriate paperwork.

Steve,

Thanks for the heads up. I''ve been to Cuba before and know the routine. I''m seeking a captain who has done it before or sails under another nation''s flag.

As far as the knuckleheads you mentioned, anyone with $15 dollars can buy a Lonely Planet travel guide and know how to plan a safe trip. They must have had on "I love Castro" t-shirts when they walked back through U.S. customs.

Tens of thousands of Americans make the trip every year, including many sailors!

Cheers

Suggest you purchase the newest edition of "Lattitudes and Attitudes", good, recent article on travel <cruising> to Cuba. I have been a couple of times during the Clinton administration, but I do not know If I would advise going right now.
