When not to leave a safe harbour! (pictures)

Apparently the forecast was seas 9 to 10 mtrs with a storm warning with winds that had at times been recorded at 61 kts at the seaway entrance.

I don't think I would be leaving!

AMazing that the mast did not come down from all that violent action. Me? I think I'll stay at home.

Most people would think it is not a good idea to take the boat out when it's blowing 60 kts. I wonder when it dawned on this guy that it was not a good idea! Maybe when he hit the first breaker!

Just messing with you Charlie. I did not see any wood so I knew it wasn't you.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

My son looked at the pictures and said "Oh - you just gotta raise some sails honey and that will stabilize us."

They may need bleach in the gene pool but I'm guessing this guy needed bleach for his boxers !

Wow!

I understand he's looking for crew now...any volunteers?

I think there are ten possibilities why this happened:

10) He listened to NOAA...they predicted calm seas?
9) He figured he could get his boat pressure washed for free (even the bottom).
8) His buddy at the bar last night bet him he couldn't get his sailboat vertical.
7) His holding tank was full and he wanted to empty it the hard way.
6) There are big "wakes" and winds in the marina...lets see if things are better outside...
5) He set the autopilot and went below for a nap.
4) Why buy radar?...A depth sounder can also be used to spot obstacles on the horizon.
3) His surfboard was broken.
2) He's afraid of heights...thought it would be easier to inspect the mast if it were horizontal.
1) He just got a new EPIRB and wanted to try it out.

I'll bet he doesn't try that one again; EVER!

Wow - those are incredible pics - It said he attempted to leave at 3pm... So I'm guessing at 9am he was thinking "it's 5 o'clock somewhere" and started pounding the drinks?
