How many independant companies are there now.

The motor industry as we all know has less owners then brand names. Many seemingly different makes are actually owned by one company.
How much is it like that in the boat industry now?

Who are the big owners/companies under which other makers still market different name brand boats? Who actually owns what these days? Who are the main players, who are the small independents and who are the big independents?

There aren't many conglomerates in the sailboat industry making more than one brand...
Beneteau/Jeanneau/Lagon, Tartan/C&C, are the only ones that spring to mind. A complete current yacht builders list is a sticky note here:

That's quite a list. However there seems to be changes happening all the time..Didn't I read that Delphina boats were sold/being sold and what about Etap or was it Elan didn't they just go on the market?

I guess that is more what I was asking. Who's hot and who's not at this point in time.

Are smaller companies being saved/absorbed by larger ones?

I think Hanse just saved Dehler and I think Dehler had previously acquired Etap...others will have to chime in for more details.
