Cuttyhunk and Montauk
I checked w Active Captain and am planning a sail Saturday, weather permitting. [Which is like planning on finding a genie in a bottle lately ] But we are hoping to sail out of Hingham Bay, Mass. and overnight at Cuttyhunk Island and then traveling to Montauk for an overnight on the lake. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

Joe,

Are you going to be able to get to Cuttyhunk from Hingham Bay in one day? It seams to be a long way for a 30 ft boat? How many miles is it?

I'm sailing in that area next week, leave on the 11th and should be in Cuttyhunk on the 13thor 14th, depending if we go to Newport or not.

If the winds and canal current co-operate, it can be done. Otherwise we'll do an overnight off Clark Is. in Duxbury.

That area used to have a lot of kelp, if you don't use a delta/CQR be sure you get your anchor into sand.

OH, that's right, you're not used to having real wind to sail in.

We often get 18-20 knots of wind here on Buzzards Bay...

But, you're right, that's a pretty long sail for a 30' monohull.

Let's keep an eye out for each other. The plan is: Block Island (July 11th or 12th) -- Cutty Hunk -- Edgartown (2 nights) -- Nantucket (2 nights)
