Slow Start to Hurricane Season (North Atlantic)
I don't want to jinx us, but has anyone noticed the slow start to the North Atlantic hurricane season?

We are now better than seven weeks into the season and, as far as I've been able to determine, we've only had one relatively short lived Tropical Depression (TD 1):

Using the 1944-2005 average (which doesn't include some recent highly active seasons), we could normally expect one named storm by now:

Hopefully this trend will continue!!

Great, now I have to break out the storm anchor and the big rode!

A bit more active in the Pacific with two TD's out there now but further development not expected. An El Nino is now in place and in general terms that should mean fewer Atlantic and more pacific storms.

Yeah. Mother ocean still controls us. She continues to move in ways that we can not predict, just to prove that she has always been in control and can defy our recently recorded data base and our technological predictions whenever she feels the need. It is good to know that nothing has changed. The sky is not falling. Keep up with the maintenance on the boat and worry about the things we can control.
