painting the side strip of my boat

How do I do this? I have a Catalina 22. The bottom was recently hauled out and painted by professionals but now I want to paint the top side side stripe. I want to change the color completely and also paint in the white gap above the stripe.What do I need to use as a primer and what kind of boating paint should i buy to paint the final coat? Also I will probably go with yellow, but I was thinking about doing an oil based paint that is metallic gold...any suggestions? Can i just get metallic gold in an oil base at the kelly moore store and some kind of polyurethane sealant or marine grade only. Thanks!
