I've bow hunted carp. never encountered the variety that jump out of the water though. I would love to shoot one of those.
I (legally) hunt duck and goose and yes, you are required to use non-toxic shot. no lead in the water is a good thing.

We'll need a new breed of retriever, specifically to fetch the dead and wounded (winged? finned?) carp. The Soo Setter? Canadian Koihound? Michigan Yellow Carper?
Oh sure, this seems like a crisis today. In twenty years, it'll be just another obscure Olympic event dominated by Canadians -- like curling. Did you know curling (sliding heavy granite stones across the ice with tremendous accuracy) was invented to control beaver populations? True fact. Evil little gnawers stick their heads out of a breathing hole ... THUMP.

Oh. My. God.
YouTube - Asian Carp Jumping, Part 2
(Watch all the way to the end. )
I for one welcome our new koi overlords.
Completely off topic -- would somebody please grill up a few carpburgers with extra cheese for that Illia woman in the Nieman Marcus sidebar ads? She looks really hungry.

It is better to be vaguely correct than specifically wrong.

You mean your carp are edible? Ours aren't!!
I'm not even convinced that plants will eat them - even munched up really fine and spread around the roots - but I don't suppose they have any choice..

For youze...
Bones of Contention
Carp are good eating. All species. Sweet, fatty, mucho Omega3. May need to process them heavily because of the bones, like herring. Also want to watch heavy metals/PCB content, since they are garbage feeders.
Now, over here we have thousands of commercial fishermen who are really hurting -- idled because the great fisheries have been depleted -- idled because they are too good at catching fish.
While over here, we have a whole s*&tload of unwanted, slow, stupid, beefy feeshes that literally hurl themselves into boats. Surely, a solution presents itself? Nothing but water between the Maritimes and Lake Michigan. Bring over the flippin Portugese factory trawlers, set them loose on the infested waters with strict orders to obey fishing quotas; the carp will be extinct in six months.

Damn your hide, Bob. I nearly sprayed a mouthful of coffee all over two keyboards, two monitors, and everything else on my desktop!
LOL!

I nominate bob for Minister of Fisheries, even if he isn't from Soviet Canuckistan.
And I'm going sailing for two days. I expect all the details to be worked out by the time I'm back.

Edit: someone beat me 2 it
Sounds like we have a new sport on our hands as well as way to control the nasty carp population. Who needs clay pigeons? Just imagine saying "THROTTLE!" instead of "PULL!"
Interesting how they jump out of the water when a boat goes motors by. Reminds me of a story about how a people can get worms to come out of the ground by "worm grunting" they put a wooden stake in the ground and rubbing a piece of iron on it causing vibrations that make the worms do what seems illogical - leave the safety of the earth. Maybe the prop/motor vibrations cause a similar instinctive reaction to the carp and can be utilized to contain or control them.
If so, I'll take full credit for the idea and any monetary dividends from averted losses may be forewarded to the moderators of Sailnet to use at their discretion
Otherwise, let me know when the Flying Carp season opens! THROTTLE!

Considering your location, I presume you mean the political kind, not the religious kind. In neither case will they meet with your two-day expectations.
You might want to try a circumnavigation!!!
