sounds good, Jody

I had a good experience finding and buying my boat this year through a CL ad. I think the seller I bought from read Jody's post then went back to the future. He had a good ad but told me about people still trying to get it for nothing and just coming out to waste his time. In the end it was the perfect boat for me so I looked it over, went home and thought about it for a weekend (didn't ask him to hold it for me and knew other people were looking), then went back with the cash when I decided it was a great deal for me.

I still keep an eye on Craig's List for the next great deal just a few feet longer.
Mike

I sold my Islander (7weeks) and my Vette(3days) on Craigslist. I have not had good respose to selling Sailing gear as I have some things I have been trying to sell but no responses. I did find that I got better response on the Boat and vette when I listed my phne number.

If you happen to be looking for a boat on Craigs List, there is a wesite that will greatly aid in your search - www.RaveTrade.com - 100% Free Classifieds for property, cars, for sale, electronics, artists, musicians & more. Easy to use - click on CL from the home page and you are taken to a Google powered search screen - you can narrow down search to specific regions, etc.

Sold and Opti on Craigs List

Piece of cake. Sold it in 2 days. Had people calling for a week.

Now I'm looking for a 420 from my son. In New Jersey.

We bought our Cal 28 Flush Deck off craigslist.

ArtbyJody has the goods down pat. Just follow his instructions and add water!

Got a call just 2 hrs. after posting my add, cash buyers, no haggling. I'd set a fair price for an excellent boat with an accurate description of the condition. I removed my add instantly so I was not troubled by callers after it was gone.

On the other hand, I just looked at 2 boats with problems not mentioned in the adds. This made me distrustful of the sellers. Rotted trailer, rotted bulkhead not mentioned, what else does the owner know of but won't tell?

I had cash and might have paid the asking price but the lack of trust stopped me.

Interesting to compare these results with the low priced sailboats on yachtworld sitting there for months. I can't blame the brokers for not being interested in spending a lot of time selling boats for a relatively small commission. Some of the owners might fare better listing their boats on CL when the listings expire.
