Overhangs in a Lake Erie Chop

Hi ya,

I was wondering if what I heard about long overhangs is true; that is that in a 3' chop, with waves coming in fairly short order one after the other like they do in Lake Erie, that a boat with long over hangs such as a Pearson Triton, Alberg, or corvette , will not handle as well- get bounced around... Is this true ?

Any insights would be helpful in my next purchase.

I can tell you that a boat without overhangs has a lot of issues in very short period chop too. When bringing our Passport 40 (no overhangs) down to Annapolis last year we hit a 25kt wind with opposing current just south of the C&D Canal. The 3-4ft short period (0.5-2 second) chop was so bad that we were literally being pushed backwards. We ended up anchoring off close to shore to wait out the chop before continuing. I can't imagine a boat with long overhangs would be any worse.
