Talking Announcement to My Friends at Sailnet

So here is my big announcement and no we have not had a day that "really sucked"; quite the opposite! About 2 years ago a professional photographer, Peter Lyons ( lyonsimaging.smugmug.com ) took some amazing photos of us sailing in under the Golden Gate Bridge. Well about 1 year ago he sent me an e-mail telling me that one of the photos was selected to be in the 2010 Cruising World Calendar!! So we have waited patiently for the last year; in partial dis-belief since sometimes plans change before publication; until last week when I got my first copy of the calendar with our picture in it!!! It is a proud moment for me; this is easily the best thing that I have ever "won". The month for us is March 2010; so put a Cruising World calendar on your christmas list if you would like to have a nice photo of a fellow Sailnetter!

Waaay cool, Keelhaulin'!

We once grabbed a Mustang brochure at a boat show and opened it up to see a half page shot of our boat rounding a mark, with everyone on board decked out in Mustang gear... no permission, no thanks, nada. But still it was neat to see.

Will be looking for Miss March!!

I've been taking photos of people while we're out sailing in Buzzards Bay. I've been uploading the photos to my website, but letting people know they're available can be kind of challenging.

May I ask how it is he connected your boat to the photo, and how he was able to put you together with an email address?

I started my venture thinking there would be people who would be happy to have a photo of themselves out on their boat (I know we would!). If only they knew the photos existed...

Congrats on the calendar!

Congrats,

Sounds like March will be a good month for sailnet members. My boat may be in a march issue of a nation mag as on of the review boats. I'm still holding my breath to a degree.... but word has it it should be in.

My boat just made the "Derelict Disasters" calendar. April. I'm holding my breath too - head's leaking.

Cruising World? I'll keep an eye out for that one. I've been looking for a 2010 sailing calendar.

Hey, smack, I'll be sure to look for that "Derelict Disasters" while I'm at it.

Thanks for the kind words guys!

The way that we got his information was via his website; lyonsimaging.com which was printed on the RIB he uses when out taking photos. We contacted him to inquire about photo purchase; then later he e-mailed me back with the info about the picture being published.

Here is a link to the photo that is published in the Cruising World calendar:

Good Grief!, 9/24/07 - Lyons Imaging :: Our Galleries

If you go up one folder on his website there is also another series of photos he took of us sailing upwind on a different day. The pictures are so amazing that I still have not been able to narrow down my top 10 picks for photos to purchase.
