Great website , will only get better as more ports are added. So much more info in a more useable form than the AIS receiver I have on board.

You don't suppose those guys with rpg's in Somalia would know about this site, do you? It will be nice to use next season to help avoid tugs and other traffic around here-- you should be able to access it from your Blackberry pretty easily.

paulk,

The Somalia comment is the first reaction that I had to. Good thing though is that you can turn off the transmitter when you are operating in certain areas.

That page was a great find. Too bad I won't have access to it when out on the water.

If you go to marinetraffic.com then click on Somalia you will notice that no one in that area has AIS turned on.No Wonder!

I wonder...how long before this type of live map can be integrated with your GPS Map and/or Radar???

That is the idea of AIS. Have you used AIS integrated with a chartplotter before? Too bad it is so expensive.

Wow - now all we need is reasonably priced satellite internet access so that we can pick this up from the boats and we'll be in great shape. That should come in the next few years.

If we only had something that shows logs floating in the Hudson river - especially on moonless nights. I've hit two of those suckers in the last three years, with not inconsequential damage.
