Abacos Chartering

I am considering chartering in the Abacos or the BVIs this February. Which is recommended and why?

Personally, I prefer the BVI. There tends to be more wind there and it is also warmer(but not too warm in february). I think the thing that put me off about the abacos was the depth. Everytime I looked over the side, I was wondering why we were not aground, it is just really shallow. If you go there, make sure to get a boat that does not draw a lot of water. Depending on what company you charter with and where they let you go, there isn't a whole lot of distance to be covered in the abacos. I find in either place that I was doing a lot of sailing around for the sake of sailing rather than trying to get some place.

BVI would be better, solely because of the weather. Abaco in Feb can be unsettled and cold if your charter coincides with a front. And in February there usually is a lot of fronts that go through. If you prefer a quieter charter, Abaco is better, especially north of Whale Cay Cut. Few charter boats go that way, most stay in the "hub" area around Marsh Hbr., Hopetown, Man-o-War and up to Treasure Cay or down to Little Harbour. In BVI, it is a lot more crowded and I've seen charterers nearly fighting over the last mooring in a bay at 3 pm. in the afternoon.

For a vacation BVI as you'll be assured of good weather.

BVI is much better sailing than Abacos. If you ae experienced the Grenadines, where I have spent the last month, is better sailing than both. BVI has become very Disney-like.
