mooring needed Maryland, Carolina: 6 months

I am thinking of purchasing a 40 ft trimaran , it is in Annapolis , I can spend up to a week moving her
Then I have to leave it somewhere till June when I can sail her to Nova Scotia
A mooring where someone could keep an eye on her would be needed
I can offer much hospitality for anyone helping me out anytime they visited Nova Scotia

I can't pay like 200 per month or the deal isn't worth doing
thanks for any help
Peter

If you leave it on the Rhode river I could keep an eye on it for free but I don't know the rules on mooring. We have some great spots and I go out at least once a week till the end of Dec. then I do repairs till march. Any ways I could check it at least once a week. I could also help you sail down from Annapolis aprox. 3hrs. then drive back up 15 min.

Are there rules on mooring or can you just drop anchor for 6 months ?

the chessy has the best rules for mooring and anchoring, stay out of channels oyester bed, cable areas and the severn river and its pretty much do as you want. the worse part is annapolis and kent county are the only ones that require permits.

there is a marina in the rhode river area that has mooring for rent, i have seen adds for them on craigslist

I would think you could get one less then $200.00 considering I only pay $120 for a slip. I will check prices tomorrow but its nice to know you could drop anchor.

If you are on a mooring you will not be able to check on the boat for roughly a month in winter when the creeks that are shallow enough for moorings are frozen. Also, mooring for the winter can be pretty risky since holding on the Chesapeake is not all that great and the ice flows can come through and cut most mooring lines and simply drag off the a moored boat.

Depending on the width and draft of your tri, I may be able to let you tie up in the slipway at my home.

Jeff

Is storing the boat out of the water not an option? It just seems like you would have to worry a lot less and it would be easier for you to prep the boat in the spring for your trip back home.
