Jersey Coast, Need crew?

I'm hankering to get some ocean sailing experience sometime soon! My partner Michele is somewhat reluctant but said she'd like to join me if I can find anyone at the jersey shore that would want crew on a larger boat. My experience is single handing my Oday 30 on the River and on the Chesapeake. I'm OK in up to 6ft seas (so far) But I need the experience if I'm ever going to sail up the coast to NY or even Maine someday.

To bring my boat down the Delaware and to Cape May in the spring is pretty far off and it takes a day or 2 to get there when by car, it's only a couple of hrs! I'd like to try some fall sailing too. But, we can wait til spring!
thanks!
Denise

Hi Denise. I am a relative newbie, only been out on the Chesapeake about 10 times this year and never in challenging situations (yet). I live in Bucks County, Pa and would also like to expand my sailing experience. If you ever get bored with the Delaware river, I have a Contest 31 on the Chesapeake and am always grateful for a 2nd pair of hands.

Hey George! Some of us a talking about planning a trip down to the Bay in May .. some go in June but I feel it's not always the best time. This past June was a heat wave, 110 degs under the bimini at Ches City. "whew"
George, You live in bucks county and haven't visited anchor yacht club yet? Anchor Yacht Club - Home Page Also, when you can't get to the Bay during the week you can crew with many of the sailors here. Thank you for the offer to crew on your boat too!

Denise:

If you single handed your ODay 30, you are capable. It would be good to have another capable person on board, but I am sure you are qualified. Having gone back and forth to New England several times non stop from Annapolis, the toughest part of the trip might be down the Delaware to Cape May because the current runs so strong. Obviously once in Cape May, just make sure of the weather before heading north, but the sail along the shore to NY is pretty nice....(except the lights from Atlantic City stare at you for an interminable amount of time).

Thanks for the vote of confidence Moe! I'm rather dubious about my abilities however.

Denise,

My wife and I head from the Chesapake right after the fourth of july to the Long Island Sound for 3 weeks. We head down the Delaware to cape may and go up the Jersey coast...in Barnegat....Sandy Hook... then up the East River to the Sound. This year we are headed for Marthas Vineyard...Cuttyhunk...and Newport as the northernmost ports. We proabbly will have other boats from the Maryland Yacht Club doing parts of the legs with us to NYC and Atlantic City. You are welcome to join us also.

Feel free to PM me with ideas etc. I lived in Ocean City Nrew Jersey for 20 years before moving here and worked in Atlantic City. I am familiar with the "Joisey Shore"

Dave

I think a trip to cape may and a few days in the harbor while venturing out for day sails on the ocean may be my first attemp someday. Me boats only 44ft to the top of the mast.
