Perry Yacht Club fire

I received a phone call a few minutes ago from one of the founding members of our yacht club. At 6:15 this morning our resident caretaker awoke to a lot of popping noise from outside. He found that the clubhouse had a serious fire going. By the time the fire department arrived, all was lost.

Ouch. That seriously sucks. Was the caretaker inside the structure?

No, you can see a camper on the left side of the picture. The caretaker is being housed in that camper while the new residence is being built about 100 feet north of there.

The good news is that we hired a consulting firm to help work up a new site plan to be completed in phases over the next 20 years or so. The clubhouse was to be replaced in 10 years, but I think it just got moved up on the priority list. According to the plan, the clubhouse would be moved slightly north and east of its current location. If we didn't have a plan in place, we would have replaced the clubhouse in its current location and regretted it later.

Every cloud has a silver lining. Glad to hear no-one was injured and doesn't seem like any boats got damaged either.
