Okay guys,

Tell me more about this foam idea. I have a inflatable floor with a leak or ten that just wont hold air. (I have tried all the boat store stuff with no success.) So injecting that expandable foam works? How long will it last? Is ti fairly rigid?

it would last a long time, depending on the foam you used. 2 part foam is sold by weight... lbs per foot cube, the higher the denser. a good range of weight would be 2 lb foam, do the math for the weight of the dinghy when filed with foam. now 1 pound or even lighter would work, but it would break down under impacts pretty quickly, basicly it would bruise.

now if you could do some sort of foam rubber so it has some spring back, it would do well, that way it would not get "bruised".

the foam idea is nice but it would be pricey and heavy. the below link has prices and each density has its properties listed, ie how dense, stiffness etc

linky

edit t37 if you get rid of the dinghy let me know, i real dinghy even with leaks would be better than what i have

Seconded. As a fellow Aussie I loved hearing about your adventures across the Pacific. Good to hear from you again.

Now if you have a great blue water capable boat for sale under 70k give me a call

Of course, you were probably looking for something bigger . Apparently, this little charmer has been around the world a couple of times and across the Atlantic 28 times .... or so I heard. She was my second choice when looking a boats recently, but then again I don't mind "camping out" on a semi-permanent basis. Great little history to her, and I'm sure she'd get out there well below 70k after the necessary refit and such. So, there are affordable blue water cruisers, depending on what your looking for...... Hopefully, I'll go out and take a peek at her next week just because I'm curious.

Thanks for the link. Seriously thanks. 25' is maybe going to be a touch squishier than we had hoped for but she is an interesting boat that has certainly seen more of the world than I!

Beautiful boat, truly. I don't see a backstay ? Does she have flying headsails ? More skill than this sailor possesses. Chall03 that's a boat that commands a bit of respect! Don't see a dinghy either ...
