Meteors of November

The next meteor shower is the Leonids on November 17-18. The shower will peak in the predawn hours of November 17. The Moon will be just past new, so it won't interfere with the shower. Experts predict that this will be a good year for the Leonids.

Forecast for 2009: Astronomers are predicting that the Leonids could experience an outburst of about 500 per hour on November 17. Although Asia is favored for the outburst, observations are encouraged around the world on the mornings of November 17 and 18, as better than normal rates could be seen. The moon will not be an issue.

I remember the last time I watched the Leonids, I was just laying on the ground outside at about the same time of year in a sleeping bag, cold, watching the sky. It was amazing to watch!

just in from watching the show. started around 2 AM with my son.
rum, blankets, beach chairs and our dog. saw about 10. the best meteor i've ever seen was at 2:58. long, wide, brilliant with an exclamation puff at the end. not alot of them but the quality was good enough to make this a meteor moment. special.
