Thank you all! Definitely come out and say hello if you see me on the water one day.
chas5131, I can sympathize with wanting to sail and being up in the mountains. I spent 17 years living in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia where there are no lakes big enough to sail in (well) and the sea is a good three hours away or more. I feel like I forgot more about sailing than I learned in those years.
nemier, As for the dinghy, I have a William Atkin designed "Vintage" (under the listing for "Little Boats") that my dad built back in the early 80's that I'll use as a tender.

She can't fit on the deck (space is tight as you can see). Since I'll be sticking to the ditch for this trip, and watching my weather windows (no schedule to hurry me), towing her should be fine. When I get my skills up more, I'd like a smaller sailing/rowing dinghy that could go on deck. I'd love it to be another William Atkin design if it could. I really love the "Vintage" and would highly recommend the design to anyone. Here's one someone else built: (my dad's has a more work-a-day look having been treated just with "boat soup/sauce" and having spent some time in the sun)

More pics are at the Atkin site.
