Tracking device - Spot

Looking for a reliable tracking device.

Heard of spot, anyone used it before?

Happy to hear any other recommendations

Lots of discussions over the years about Spot.
Search the archives here and you will find several threads with several views and opinions.

What kind of "more professional" are you looking for? A mor professional security or a technical solution? From my point of view the spot works very well. Could not give any inromation about the emergency handling since fortunately I never needed it now. It's for sure not to be mixed with an epirb but it feels like a good (to have in your bag even on landside) enhancement to it.
I am using the Spot now for about a year (Stil first set of batteries) and in summertime and speedy sailing I hit the "OK" twice a day. It turned out quite easy and as a cheap solution.
I just wrote a little PHP-****** that graps the "Last OK"-Position from my Mailbox and put it on my website in a map. Updates took never (while I could monitor) more than half an hour to be marked on the position.

For an on-going tracking device for those on shore to keep up with you or to send out a GPS location SOS, I don't know of any other device than SPOT.
On Paloma, we have SPOT and an EPIRB. On the other hand, for you knowing where you are the Garmimn Map 76Csx is the best for the price.

Cheap. tracking is great, good on land and sea comes in handy for many things. The only problem we have is that the tracking shuts off after 24hrs and you have to restart it.

If you are thinking about it, buy it. Subscribe to tracking.

Not a replacement for an EPIRB but so much more useful you should have both, though you need neither.
