I'm proud to say that a large amount of those cod fishing vessels and fishermen were Portuguese, and that there are a couple more things I'd like to share with you on this subject:

A book:
" A campanha do Argus", also available as "The quest of the Schooner Argus", by Alan Villiers

Another small film:

The White Ships

And a couple of blogs about the restoration of two of these Schooners, caled "Lugres" to be exact:

Santa Maria Manuela: Janeiro 2009

The New Quest of the Schooner Argus

Enjoy!

Regards

Man I thought I had it tough back in the day long lining for black cod up in the great white north. We atleast had a bait house to stand in and a nice warm galley.
