Moving to Corpus Christi!!!

Hey Everyone I am moving to Corpus Christi Texas next spring from Colorado, mostly to experience a new lifestyle, meet new people and go to school. I have never been sailing either and would love to learn cause I have a pasion for being on a boat and on the open water, so anyone who would like to take a "very beginer" out would be awesome. Hit me up I would love to chat with some of you that live in that area!

nolatom will become famous soon enough
well, I know absolutely nothing about it (though been there once) but from the attached it sounds like a good friendly place with decent sailing and racing:

Corpus Christi Sailing

Just find out where the boats race from, hang around before a race, talk to people about your interest in getting experience, you'll get a ride easily. Bigger the boat, and the more casual the format (like the weeknight "beer can" races described), the more willing they are to take on an extra crew, and to welcome an new potential sailor.. And from those sailors you'll find out where you can get some tiller time on smaller boats, which are more "demonstrative" to learn on.

Best of luck.

Ah Corpus is a nice little town. I hope you like Mexicans, they're great and plentiful there. It's a middle income town for sure. Moderate housing at cheap prices. Of course it comes with the regular Texas benefits of a CHL and no state income tax.

Corpus has a fairly active sailing community. On the coast there is Port Aransas, which hosts the annual Harvest Moon Regatta from Galveston (it's put on by Lakewood YC in Kemah/Seabrook). The regatta is always fun to read about since Texas sailors suck! and a handful always get into trouble during the October run south. There is almost always a nice cold front that tears them a new one. There are plenty of boats that do just fine, but overall Texas sailing is fair weather bay sailing.

To be fair most of those guys make it there fine - I'm poking fun...

The gulf outside is nice there. You will get used to a large ground swell and regular winds. But you'll do fine to hang out at the CC city marina there. You can find lots of opportunity to sail with someone or just learn what to do.

One big difference in Texas is there is lots of shallow water. Get some charts and study. Tide differences are modest, usually less than two feet.

Enjoy south Texas. I loved it there (I had a liveaboard in Port Aransas for a year) but it was too friggin hot.

Interesting in that I also live in Colorado and am considering retiring in that area. I really, really liked the area the times that I have visited.

People love to hate on Texas but Texans love their state. I think some are jealous in that Texas has almost everything.

Colorado especially seems to have their share of Texan haters.

They are afraid that Texas will purchase Colorado and turn it into a state park.

Corpus is a great place to live, we've kept Paloma at Bahia Marina in Ingleside on the Bay (on the west side of Corpus Christi Bay) for several years and spend lots of time in Corpus. Lots to do and it's not a long drive (by Texas standards) to Houston or down to the Valley and Mexico.

Slipped in Bahia Marina, easy access to Corpus Christi Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.

All above said is true. Great coastal sailing out of Corpus, I do the Harvest Moon run every year, we had a bit of weather blow on us last year. Mustang island is where the two big marinas are located. Yes it's hot and humid most of the year, but it's comfortable in February. Coloradan's hate Texan's because Colorodo was once part of the North Tejas teritory. Texan's don't hate other states they just know Texas is better than anywhere else and they want to make sure everyone else knows it to.

Thanks for all the little tips and things. not let me tell you guys why people from colorado hate texans, and i can say for sure cause i come from Breckenridge AKA "Summit County" where all the ski resorts are at and the reason why we hate the texans is cause they don't know how to drive in the mtn at all and when snow is involved **** goes crazy!!! they are always the only ones on the side of the road. nd they don't use a whole lot of common sense at a ski resort either.
