Fawcetts in Annapolis

We took a ride down to Annapolis yesterday and were surprised to learn that Fawcett's is moving from Ego Alley to right around the corner from West Marine. They're taking over the old Apex Dinghy building using the first floor for retail and the lower level for dinghy and engine repair. Apparently in an attempt to maintain the cruiser community business they're considering running a shuttle between downtown and the store. I'll miss the store in town that's for sure.

Wow!.... that's a major development....any word on who might take over that space?

I'm always surprised to see the number of available commercial rentals in town. Rents must be very high.

I was talking to the staff yesterday and no one knows, or will tell, what is taking their place. The good thing about the new location is they will own it instead of leasing and there will be much more space to accommodate thier growing service department.

However, it is sad to see an institution leave the waterfront. I just hope the new tenant has something to do with the maritime industry and is not another over priced mediocre restaurant or suoivineer shop.

I learned of their move while I was "stuck" in Annapolis just after Christmas during those Gale Force winds. I wandered over to browse (had lots of free time Although I rarely purchased anything, I was bummed to hear about their move, but hopeful they may be able to lower their prices now?

Cheers,
Shawn

Maybe a place where I can get a Navy Tee shirt. I also read that the town took back the dock market. Maybe some one has plans. I hope.

That derelict boat was another dream for somebody else, don't let it be your nightmare and a waste of your life.

Maybe, West Marine will jump on the space....I can't imagine a waterfront like annapolis without a Marine store within convenient walking distance.
I'm not a big fan of The West Marine stores...Annapolis is probably the best one that I've been in, though.

The Market has never been the same, since the flood...and what they did to it, doesn't seem to be working. imo

Hopefully they will put another high end, yuppie clothing store like Abacrumby and Flinch... Annapolis needs more of that type of thing. Or better yet, a CVS!

West typically places their stores in cheaper locations like strip malls rather than on the waterfront. Having said that they opened a store in Jacksonville Florida last year in the new outdoor mall. This is their largest store in the country, dwarfing the Ft. lauderdale and Annapollis stores.

We heard someone say the place was still unrented. Not sure they're making the right move by pulling the retail store out of that site. There always seemed to be cruisers in the store. I guess time will tell. I did buy a hat though. This way if they go under I'll have a piece of memorabilia
