Finding first owner

If you owned a boat 40 years ago would you want the new owner to call you and let you know where it is?

If you owned a 40 year old boat and could find the first owner would you?

Why not? Though the boat's not 40 yet, and I haven't contacted the previous owner, I have done a lot of research on the maintenance history of our boat that's been very useful. Knowing the boat's narrative is always interesting.

Sure! There's a 1969 Whitney 30 Sparkman & Stephens sloop out there somewhere that I lived on for a year about forty years ago. If it hasn't been scraped, I'd love to hear about it and share some of it's early history. I'd even like to hear from the first owner who had named it "Easy Rider" and sold it in Annapolis in 1970. 'take care and joy, Aythya crew

I bought a boat 18 months ago that had all the paper work from the previous 6 owners. I had never heard of the brand before, Banjer, found there was an international owners site and that the original owner was looking for my boat, thrice renamed.

We have carried on a fair conversation, confirmed it was his DaKine and talked about how they sailed it to the US west coast from England, lost it in a force 5 hurricane, it blew off its mooring and spent a week alone at sea, and its recovery.

I've since either been contacted by or contacted 3 of the other owners, two of which have standing offers to buy the boat from me.

It has been a fun part of the journey
