We have a keel/centerboard on our boat, and need to sand the centerboard back down in the spring and put new anti-fouling on it. The yard suggested, as sailingdog did above, that come spring we'll put her in the slings in the afternoon/evening and drop the board. Then we can sand, paint, whatever, and splash the boat in the morning. Our plan is to get whatever paint we want on it in the evening, so it'll dry in plenty of time for launch in the morning. So that's indeed the plan.
I agree with SD on the point of checking out the pivot pin and cable while you're at it.
