Question Antifouling a center board ???

I have a 44 footer with a big centre board. Draws 5 foot with the board up and about 9 with it down.

Does anyone have experience with cleaning and antifouling something like this.

Do you get it propped up really high? Work in a pit? Get them to give you a few minutes in the slings before it is launched, drop the keel and slop on a coat and hope it dries in time.

It might be worth dropping the board completely and checking out the pivot pin while you have the boat out of the water.

Otherwise, having the boat in the slings is probably the best approach... you might try seeing if they can leave the boat in the slings overnight... hauling in the afternoon and then you have the afternoon and evening to sand and paint the centerboard. Don't forget to sand and paint inside the centerboard trunk.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

We have a keel/centerboard on our boat, and need to sand the centerboard back down in the spring and put new anti-fouling on it. The yard suggested, as sailingdog did above, that come spring we'll put her in the slings in the afternoon/evening and drop the board. Then we can sand, paint, whatever, and splash the boat in the morning. Our plan is to get whatever paint we want on it in the evening, so it'll dry in plenty of time for launch in the morning. So that's indeed the plan.

I agree with SD on the point of checking out the pivot pin and cable while you're at it.
