Transiting the Atlantic to the West from Italy

Has anyone made the crossing westbound from the Med to the Florida Keys? Looking for the best timing for favorable westerly trade winds and currents and ports along the route. Also an estimate of the time it will take.

Hi, Welcome to Sailnet!

A good place to start would be to look at the schedule and route used by the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers.

They don't depart from the Med per se, but most boats that join the rally come over to the Canaries from Europe and the Med.

You might also want to consult Jimmy Cornell's book, World Cruising Routes... which will give you a bit more flexibility in planning.

Thanks, I'll check that out.
