MORC: CC29MII capabilities

This C&C 29 which was introduced in the early 1980s should not be confused with the much larger 29 foot model of the 1970s. This boat has an overall length of 28" 6", so it would have to be described as a slightly smallish 29 footer. It was marketed as the successor to the C&C 27 of the 1970s (which was really a 28 footer). While the C&C 29 has a comfortable and attractive interior which includes a quarter berth, it was conceived as a serious club racer that would have a favourable rating under the MORC measurement rule (Midget Ocean Racing Club). It is a good looking 29 footer that comes with a T-shaped cockpit. Most were built with the deep 5' 3" fin keel, but at one time, it was available with a shoal draft keel of 4" 0"

I am determined to get a straight answer from anyone familiar with the CC29MII . Could someone explain in simple terms or (point me in the direction of the answer) what is ment by the MORC measurement rule. Also if the CC29MII was designed as a racer cruiser with favourable MORC rating is it a candidate to cross the Atlantic ? I am not a novice sailor and my CC29MII is undergoing a lot of upgrades. I do mostly costal cruising and rasing but would love to cross to homeland Ireland (just once).

Thanks for history, interesting. Does a favourable MORC rating mean a small boat is more seaworthy than others. Or, is this too simple of a question. Is it a safety rating to promote safety ?

Uh, sort of. Explaining MORC is waaay above my pay grade, but the C&C, although built to an Off-Shore rule, is not on either the Atom list of small bluewater cruisers or the Mahina list. On the racer-cruiser spectrum, the 29 really is on the racer end of the scale, not a long distance blue water cruiser, and the tankage, toerails, handrails, fiddles, etc., all reflect that bias.
