Coecles Harbor Question

For those of you familiar with the Shelter Island area, is there any restriction on rafting in Coecles Harbor? Our club is planning a sunflower raft in there this coming August, and I just want to make sure we don't run afoul of any ordinances or other regulations.

Was there in August 2008. Didn't raft though.

I know they have a big sign at the entrance that says you can only stay 48 hours or something like that.

Also the most obvious place to explore has many signs saying "no landing here, no tresspassing" or something like that. That's the place where the land is very thin, on the west side of the entrance. Not sure about the east side.

Watch the entrance channel. We found that staying very close to the line of green buoys was the ticket.

Anyway, hope that helps.

Regards,
Brad

Also there's a friendly marina there. You could ask about rafting up. (Maybe ask about getting pump outs first, to break the ice. They were $5 when we were there.)

Brad

Thanks Brad. We've been there a bunch of times, and it's a great spot. Agree, it's a little dicey getting through the cut in a deep-draft boat at the wrong time. My question really goes to whether you can have a 30 or 40 boat sunflower raft in there.

West neck on the south side is my pick, nice and protected, nice marina to stop in if you need anything, fun places to explore in a dink, plus my fiancee is a South Hampton bay constable so it helps....

Well

There is a LOT of boat traffic and they allow water skiing over in the north area and a good amout of wake in general

I would say it might be tough to even have space to get that many boats in the anchor area on most weekends

If a dirty bottom slows you down what do you think it does to your boat
