A Sorry Sight...(pic heavy)

A few weeks ago on lovely Green Island, Antigua, this boat was abandoned and washed ashore on the reef sheltering Rickett's Harbour, just outside Nonsuch Bay.

It had been aground for no more than 2 weeks when these were taken. Rumour had it that it was involved in a contraband run from Jamaica, off loaded and then abandoned.

I don't recognize the type, she'd been stove in pretty severely on the starboard side where she lay, and in the 5 days or so between our first sighting it and getting close enough to get a good look she'd been pushed 40 feet onto the reef. The rudder was gone, part of the keel torn off and the interior is trashed as you can see.

Amazingly even after nearly two weeks aground very little has been salvaged.. some nice self tailers there still!

The prop blades look bent as if they had been turning when they hit something, so the cord wrap is unlikely. The EPIRB is still there and that will have a registered MMSI to the owner.

Looking at the interior paint scheme that boat was trashed before it hit the reef.

I'm amazed that the vultures haven't picked the boat clean already.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Uh...

Faster...

Does this mean that you rented out your house for outrageous amounts of money during the Olympics and are now spending the money in the Caribbean?

Tons of salvageable gear there...an eBayer's dream.

Winches, furler, windvane steering?, windlass, hatches, running rigging, backstay tensioner...
