I am sure a recent version of the "coastal pilot" would have told you that.

Some day I will sell everything, buy a 50 ft sailboat, and turn left at the Columbia River Bar

Omatako,
You must not have received the memo. Don't you know that going to sea requires you to adopt the lifestyle of a hermit? None of those modern conveniences are allowed on board a sail boat and if you have them, well than you are nor a real sailor. Everybody knows that.

God forbid, I remember the day I confessed to having a microwave oven on board our boat and I thought I had just announced that I was a serial killer.

TV on board? You've got to be kidding me. Heat/AC? No way man. GPS/Chartplotter? The ONLY way to navigate is with a sextant and a noon sighting.

Stillraining, just keep doing what your doing. I believe that you will find the sea anything but boring.

+1 on this.

You say you like to fix and tinker, OK. Now if you REALLY want to walk the walk, go get yourself a wooden boat in need of a little love.

I speaketh from experience, and I own a plastic boat now.

Many of us have no concept of "the sailing season"! I'm always aboard; always in season; and I always have a list of things to "tinker" with. I have a 37 year old boat that's been mine for 25 years. We're presently cruising to the Bahamas,- things break...I fix them or replace them. I have essentials and things I can do without. What could possibly be different? 'take care and joy, Aythya crew
