The is something going here.

Quote:
Mark Proulx, maritime co-ordinator at the Victoria Rescue Centre, casts doubt on Carver’s story of stormy weather, however.

Proulx said between Feb. 18, when Carver dropped off his friend in Tahsis, and Feb. 26, when he said he was shipwrecked, the wind conditions were often almost too light for sailing, blowing as little as three knots on Feb. 19.

The fastest winds recorded from a buoy off Tofino were 29 knots, easy sailing weather. And that was on Feb. 26, the day Carver said his vessel sank.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I know this area quite well. None of this story has any credibility.

So what the hell, was he dumping a dead body? It'll be interesting to see what comes of this!

Cement boat? What’s next? Boats made of steel? Clearly a made up story but to what end? (ominous music)

Archi -- you beat me to it by 5 minutes. Steel sinks, fiberglass sinks, so does wood, when it's gets water-logged.

It will be interesting to see what comes of this story.

Brad

I'd point out that local weather records don't back this guy's story up at all according to another article. Maximum winds recorded by a nearby weather buoy were only 29 knots... which is a little high but shouldn't be a problem for any well-found cruising sized sailboat.

Lots of OLD ferro cement or stone boats around. Many circumnavigations have been made in them. A well made stone boat will last a very long time.
