Some one told me I sort of resemble a redneck...and all we have are boats....we don't even capitalize the word..

The purchase price of a boat is just the admittance fee to the dance...you still have to spend money on the girl...so court one with something going for her with pleasing and desirable character traits others desire as well... or you could find yourself in a disillusioned relationship contemplating an expensive divorce.

“Going to the boat” What else can I call her? Have you seen her pic’s? Lines to classic for Tub, to under equipped for Yacht. And a vessel is for coffee and rum. As my adult kids say “She suits you Dad” Dan S/V Marian Claire

My Admiral was born in the Netherlands, from where the word 'yacht' comes. In Dutch, jacht means 'hunting' or 'hunt', and was originally used in the 16th century to define a light, fast sailing vessel used by the Dutch Navy to pursue pirates and other transgressors.

Since my Dutch Admiral sails in a Hunter, then 'yacht' seems an appropriate designation for Sequitur.

Set up for cruising, I think if she sits under a far away blue sky in azure water, with a bit of paint and polish, and a nice wardrobe, you would almost have to call her a yacht.

Tied to a dock in muddy local water with no chance of ever flying a spinnaker, boat seems more appropriate ...

The difference between a boat and a yacht is the size of the owners ego's.

When I was in college, I used to spend my summers working at a waterfront bar/restaurant. Frequently I would hear guys at the bar talking about their "yacht" only to find out that it was a 33' Sea Ray or similar. When your boat is big enough that it requires a full time crew, then you can call it a yacht... otherwise its a boat.

Maybe it is because I did not grow up around the water or around boats and I'm relatively new to it, but I don't see the word yacht as being pretentious like some seem to. To me it is just a word like "sports car", I mean, you wouldn't think someone had a big ego or was trying to impress you if they said their car was a sports car, right ? You look at it, the thing only has two seats, a rag top, an engine big enough to move a bus, and a wide wheel base, it is a car that is impractical as a commercial vehicle, it is obviously made to go fast and have fun in, so it is a sports car. To me "yacht" is the same kind of word, it just means a boat that isn't made to collect crab pots, it is made purely for recreation. I guess what I am saying is that if someone told me they had a 30 foot yacht I wouldn't raise an eyebrow, I would just assume they were telling me the had a recreational boat that was 30 foot long.
