So we are on a boat that has the performance range mentioned, from a heavy full keel to something more surfy, like Marty mentions.

You are going to pick up a mooring buoy in this location in your nice stable boat. Your sails are down.

Somehow, you foul your prop good and you can't fix it.

You miss the mooring buoy.

You are as close to shore as we saw in the video and the conditions are as we saw in the video.

What do you do?

Any experienced person who tows knows you don't go to a cleat. They probably had the tow system distributed amongst several points of the boat including the base of the mast.

I doubt that boat was aground. The beaches up there are very unforgiving and rocky. If he had been on the hard on that Lee shore it would not take to long before he started taking on water.

For one don't just depend on your motor. A boat under sail is a much better way to do it. Come in under main and go bow to into the wind slowing down to catch the ball, then go drop the main.

This way you can let the wind take you bow out of head to wind sheet the main in and still sail out.

Cool Im Golden then, I can put up 1100 sf....... Thanks Marty

For a big old tub I think she is going to do OK in the light stuff..we will see..Ted was a racer himself and some of his hulls showed it in his designs for that day and age anyway...mine got a little of it .....well sort of .

Two spinnakers should be fun if not........ya wana be my teacher..?..

The sailing up to a buoy under main alone works very well as mentioned. My step dad and I used to use this technique when pulling up to the ball we had on Lk Washington. You can also take off from the buoy sort of in reverse too. But push the main to the side of the boat opposite you want the bow to take off in, this will push the bow to the opposite side, release the mooring pennant, sheet the main in and slowly take off. Raise Jib/mizzen or equal from that point on.
