That's very good news. Glad you found your father.

Any more details you'd be willing to share? Why was he incommunicado - - radio/telephone trouble? Logistical issues?

Good news.... it would be nice to know how you lost touch for so long... perhaps as simple as no internet/cell access??

Anyhow, all's well..

Good stuff, I met him in Mobile, helped with the Monitor install and was there when he left. I'm glad he was just outta communication range, something I can see happening as we sometimes have that problem.

One of the reasons we don't tell any non-cruisers when we are going to be anywhere. We prevent a lot of panicked searches that way. We also refuse to have a strict comm schedule for the same reason.
Cruisers already understand "boat time" so they don't worry about it if we don't show up for a month or two.
Different strokes.

Yep it's a problem, that is where SPOT comes in handy but it needs batteries, and of course it can break and often the person just feels like it is an electronic leash. Around the same time Far Star left Mobile another boat left headed for Panama. They had SPOT and it tracked them to the middle of the Gulf and then that was it. Looked bad.

But they had just hit some weather, damaged some stuff and decided to head to shore to get it fixed. For some reason they didn't want to broadcast that so just shut off SPOT. Looked bad but was nothing.

Of course sometimes it is something so it is always nice when contact is made again.

I have a Spot, it was a gift from the daughter that likes to keep track of me. I use it all the time when I sail alone and often when just out. I have wondered why there is no ability to plug into a 12V battery system. Sure would make life easier and cheaper. It requires to use Lithium um AA batteries which are several time more expensive than regular AA (they say in an emergency the standard AAs can be used but with less certainty.
