Question Mobile internet access in the US VI's

Hi all,

We're looking at a charter in the BVI's or USVI's late in the year. I'm told there is great mobile internet access in the BVIs.

But I'm not finding much info about access in the USVI's. Wish I didn't have to look, but I need to stay connected to the job even on vacation. Blackberry isn't enough - I'll have my laptop in tow. Does anyone know the situation in the USVI's for access on the boat?

Most marinas have wifi access, for free rather than paid. You may also be able to connect to 3g networks if you can see the US Virgins. Programs like PDA.net would allow you to use 3g networks on your laptop.

If you need internet access, I would recommend reading the article I wrote about WiFi for Cruising boats.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

If you are in Charlotte Amalie and anchor near the cruise ships they blanket even the pay operators. I needed to go ashore and use the Bad Ass coffe shop free wifi.

To get reliable access on the boat I anchored off Crown Bay and paid for access. It worked OK there most times.

Benner bay had the fastest and most reliable access.
