Yes, a Name Thread... With A Twist! (Photo Heavy Post)

Well I am just about ready to finalize the Canadian Registration for my boat but I need a new name. I think I have found what I have been looking for and I have picked my new name.

Since I have pulled you into yet another name thread I thought I would thank you for coming in with a little picture show. This is a series of photo's I took last October 11th around Annapolis and then on the Delaware Coast. The final sunset pictures are taken as the sun sets over the ICW.

With Sailing Season just around the corner I hope you enjoy, and my new name is after the photos:

What do you all think of Sousaku? It is Japanese for Search and I think it is fitting for me personally.

Thanks for the feedback;

Robert

I pity anyone with dial-up In any case if the name sounds good and means something to you, I think that's all that matters. Assuming my prospective boat passes survey in a couple of days I'll also have the chore of deciding on a name. The best one I've seen was "Latitude adjustment". I found it in a book of boat names. However since I don't want to steel anyone else’s clever name the names I'm thinking of are:

Jabberwock - from the famous Lewis Carroll poem
Akula - My 2 year old son's favorite Russian word (my wife is Russian) meaning shark
Broach Coach - just something stupid I thought up.

and

Cygnus X-1 - A famous black hole. This only works because I'm buying a swan and Cygnus means swan. I'll probably pass on it though because too many people name their swans Cygnus and also the boat isn't black.

The Japanese characters for Sousaku are

Or

Hummm.... Wonder if I can find a graphic artist to tie the name in with the characters and maybe a simple graphic to put something unique on the transom.

The name is OK, if you want to constantly explain it to everyone. I went down that road with PO's name on my boat until I changed it.

opps forgot the name change part

hows "crazy canadian hippy liberal" sound

might be a little long

edit: you might want to get some boat cards made and put on the bottom what the name means. when people ask what it means hand them a card

robert,
the first of the two you have is 'saguru', the verb ... kind of like 'look for'.
the second one I just can't remember. I'll see if I can post the characters for sousaku below... will it work?

捜索...

but probably simpler to just そうさく

push the button and...

To the O.P., make sure you have a native speaker check whatever you're going to do before you do it. (Like 'Japlish' silly t shirts we laugh at, there are a load of folks on this side of the ocean who have pretty goofy tattoo's that a lot of Japanese get a good chuckle from.

Sounds like a good name for a sailboat. I'd second Puddinlegs advice to have a native speaker of Japanese that you trust check over the graphics before pulling the trigger and committing.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
