Has anyone tried SailFlow.com?

Hi All...

I'm wondering what your experiences with SailFlow.com might be? I tried a competitor last season (don't recall which) and I found the wind prediction data to be next to useless. I don't think it ever matched reality on Greenwich Bay. SailFlow.com claims to have a bunch of custom weather sensors all over the place, but they don't list where at there is no clear contact info on their web site. To get access to the data and detailed forecasts you need to pay $10 per month.

Given all that I would be inclined to stay away, but I thought I would at least see what experiences others here have had. If it actually works reasonably well its worth the money to me.

I use sailflow's free services all the time and find them to be quite on the spot at least where I sail.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

jackdale will become famous soon enough
I use SailFlow in the PNW. I use it in conjuction with weatherfax, Environment Canada, grib files, etc.. Nothing will "predict" the weather, but a variety of sources will help with forecasts. I use all of these tools in deciding whether or not to go out, Once I am out I sail the wind I am in and use my eyes and other other sources to determine when to alter course. The effect of land masses can be tremendous especially in light winds on sunny days.

I look at sailflow's free stuff once in a while. In the upper Chesapeake, the data sources are pretty far apart for anything beyond a general idea. Lately, I find it much more convenient to get the same weather buoy data on the iphone with an app. Not free, but $2.99 is pretty painless.

Thanks everyone... I'm more interested in their very specific wind forecasts for small areas over short periods of time. I'm less concerned about thunderstorms for the afternoon and more concerned about wind and velocity and direction predictions.

I use windfinder.com for the upper Chesapeake. It will give you a 3 day outlook hour by hour (super forecast) and a 7 day more general outlook. I have found it to be very accurate at each station. It is free and they also have free code to add a "widget" for your own website. I have made a webpage for myself with all of the weather info I like to use.

For lake Travis, windguru.con seems better than sailflow.

I use windguru myself and find it to be as accurate as most but weather underground.com is most exact with actual bouy information..in real time
