Blister Protection for Small Bottom Repairs?

My Catalina 320 is currently in the yard having the bottom painted. A small crack with water weeping out has been detected at the forward edge of the glassed in support plate of the propeller shaft strut. The yard is opening up the area, checking tightness of strut bracket bolts, draining, and will reglass.
This boat along with most current production boats uses a vinylaster layer between the gel coat and the fiberglass to provide protection against blisters. In grinding away material in the repair process, there is little doubt that the vinylaster layer has been ground away in this small area. What should be done to make sure that I don't get water intrusion and blister formation from this repair?

the repair needs to be done with epoxy, and epoxy will stop water from getting in. infact sense they are doing this repair you should strip the whole bottom and give it a good coat ( or 4 ) of barrier coat, which is epoxy based. might as well as they will need to repaint some of the bottom already.

Scottyt:

Thanks for your reply. I am going with epoxy for the repair.
