I had a Hallberg Rassy 41 ketch. It's good for open ocean cruising. You can shorten sail in a blow and still be well balanced with plenty of sail options. It also breaks up the sail paln so you're not having to deak with a large main. For those not distance sailing or smaller boats then 41ft I think the mizzen's a nusance. It doesn't appear to do much driving and it's one more sheet to tend. For a smaller cruising boat sat 36 feet of below I'd go with a cutter as it can reduce sail well and stay in balance. For local sailing I'd go with a sloop. Ketches and yawls got thier popularity under the CCA racing rules that didn't penalze the mizzen staysail.
