Modern Cruising Under Sail - Don Dodds
So far it's my favorite book. He really dis spells alot of "feel good" myths. Me being a noob, it's very easy to be reeled in to the fantasy of sailing and ocean passages. He takes a critical/sometimes harsh look at his "peers" books and other mis information that exists out there. Granted, it's just another opinion, but at least he's honest that it's his opinion. As we all know, we sailing folk tend to be a tad different from others... opinionated, perhaps close minded, and some old fashioned...
There's a particular part on Hulls that he illustrates that full keel boats aren't necessarily more sea kindly than there counterparts. As well as explaining about heavy displacement boats and the fact that they aren't more comfortable than a lighter displacement boat in heavy seas. Interesting reading for sure.
All in all, it's refreshing to read a book that is critical of the "lifestyle" and attempts to put it out there with warts and all! I highly recommend it.
