shell rotella

I was advised to use shell rotella diesel motor oil in my new engine. I do not see this in auto parts stores, where can it be gotten. The obvious is a shell gas station, although I would think they would be more expensive. I am in Jersey. thanks Red..

Most every auto parts store should carry it- it's one of the more popular brands of diesel lube oil.

WHile a good oil, I personally prefer Chevron Delo for my 5 diesel engines, from pickup, dumptruck, bobcat, trackhoe, boat........I find a bit easier to find and buy.

Not that this is an issue, I find the Rotella has a slight stink to it, vs Delo not really having a smell per say. The original owner for my boat used Rotella, so I used it up on some changes, I had read about the stink online, doubted it, then used it, and Peeuu!

Most auto parts stores should have it. Costco at least here on the left coast has 6 1 gal cases of delo........

Reality is, BOTH are excellent oils, personal preference.

We have a Yanmar diesel in the boat and two 5-cylinder Mercedes diesels (both with over 230K miles on them). We use Castrol diesel oil in all thre

You can buy it at Walmart, Napa, and most other auto parts stores. It is a perfectly good oil and you shouldn't be worried about using it. If you are really worried, send out an oil sample to blackstone labs next time you change your oil. They have a very nice summary sheet and explanation of what the different levels in your oil mean.

If you think Chevron Delo is good; give Mobil Delvac a try. I switched last oil change over to Delvac and my engine (Perkins 4-108) seems to run much smoother on the Delvac. It's not a synthetic.

KH,

I've heard good things about both the dino and the synthetic versions. I've run the syn version in my Dmax, and it does seem a bit quieter than dino. I've personally found the Delvac a bit harder to find than Rotella. Hence the reason for using Delo. Reality is, ANY oil today is far and above what it was even 5 yrs ago, much less think about 20 yrs ago. Be it dino or synthetic or a blend for that matter. I've had good luck running Castrol blends in my small 4 cycle mowers, generator etc for my landscape biz.

Do an internet search for Shell lubricating oils and the name of your town, should come up with the distributor in the area. Rotella-T or Delo, both excellent oils and approved by all diesel manufacturers. I used Rotella 15-40 exclusively for decades in hundreds of engines, great oil. I'm using Delo 15-40 now because it's easier for me to get here, one or the other you won't have any worries.
