Denise, while I agree with your comments, I was going to say they were indeed a bid harsh. But after reading the follow up, I have to agree totally.

If conditions where that bad, why would you let non-sailers take the helm?? Two accidental gybes in high winds? Thank goodness we only had ONE trajedy last week! I hope they were at least briefed on how to DUCK.

When I take people in my boat or an airplane for the first couple of times, it is under calm, enjoyable circumstances. For the uninitiated, the thrill of calm seas or skies is enough.

Scaring people or making them puke is for amusement park designers, not sailors or pilots!
