The Boat by Buster Keaton (1921)

If you haven't seen The Boat by Buster Keaton, it's a treat.

There are many lessons to be learned in this film, from basement construction, to anchor selection, to heavy weather sailing. Also, the film explores possible implications of naming your boat DAMFINO.

Print isn't perfect, and no music, but here's Part I of III:

Having seen this a few times, there's no question in my mind that Buster Keaton must have been a boater back in the 1920s, or before. Also, wouldn't wrecking one's home be a good opportunity to do some family sailing?

That was a delight. They just don't make movies like that anymore. Or boats either. But Buster reminds me of a few of the owners I see now and then.

Thanks Jeff.

When the Westsail 32 won the America's Cup of 1963, it cemented its reputation as a family racer and Bayliner sold a lot of them. I own three.
As for Buster Keaton, I was right about him having a boating past:

Damfino Story

The Damfinos is the name of the International Buster Keaton Society, and there were three boats in Keaton's life named Damfino. He grew up in Muskegon, Michigan, fishing and boating as a boy:

(Keaton is second from left, holding the fish, in 1910.)

Sorry Jim, I was still drying my eyes when I posted.
