That's too cool! I just hope that it wasn't in distress and that it was just feeding like the article thought might be happening. Think the whale knows about the lack of oxygen in the bay??

Well I don't think a Whale would notice since it breaths air like we do. ;-)

I do hope the whale is just taking a detour and will get back on track soon. I do hope he hang around long enough for us to get a view of him. Hopefully we'll pass as he's headed south and we're headed north to HHS.

That's so cool, I would love to see just about any whale in person while out on the water. On that related note we had a grey whale come into a protected bay called False Creek here in Vancouver:

Amazing stuff.

"gus"

some years ago a young humpback was playing off of the beach in Ocean City NJ. the students in OC's st auGUStines primary school named the whale.
the nuns would take the kids out of class to watch gus play/jump/feed.
i took this pic with a plastic throw away camera. a memory maker for me.

Everytime we head out we are on the lookout for whales, we either have Blues, Grays or Humps migrating up or down all year round, however, we have yet to see any since we've been in the SD area ( up at Dana Pt we saw a couple several years ago )

Last year we had a baby gray come into the bay, we looked & looked and never saw her, 2 wks ago we had another baby gray come into the bay, so we said screw it, not interested.

When the 5pm news came on it was their lead off news, so we walked across the street and guess what, there she was 100 yds off the shore swimming around the mooring field, we walked out on the pier as she swam by and got a really good look at her.

We laughed our butts off, all those times we went out looking only to be rejected and here we walked across the street and thier it was. We have seen 1000's of dolphins, several large sharks, 50 or so Risso dolphins, but nothing compares to seeing a whale, ( even from a pier ) don't know why, their so special, they just seem that way.

Amazing! That must have been a jaw-dropping sight for these guys.

Many years ago, I remember sailing down the River Clyde to the west of Glasgow in Scotland and coming across a Minke whale in the main channel. It became a bit of a media phenomenon for a day or two. The expert view was that it was probably in distress and doomed to expire, but it did eventually make its way back out to sea.

I was helping a friend move his boat down river and didn't have a camera with me. Duh!
