Question Royce's sailing book

I inherited a copy from my dad from about 1968....Does anyone think it's worth it to get an updated version? Or, are the illustrations etc still about the same?

Hey! My copy is about the same vintage! It is seriously dog eared, the binding has been repaired with black electrical tape and the back cover is missing. Would I ever trade it in for a new one? Never! The memories are priceless. Royce’s is pretty basic, sort of the boy scout handbook of sailing. If you are looking for a more modern, encyclopedia type book, might I suggest the Annapolis Book of Seamanship? This one is more oriented towards salt water sailing in bigger boats whereas Royce’s really came in handy during my el Toro days on Lake Vasona.

Royce's is the first book I hand to people who tell me they want to learn about sailing. I have several versions. I say put the vintage one on the shelf for safe keeping and get the latest edition to keep on your boat. You'll find that very little has changed

Amazon has a 1997 version. FWIW, here's the link: Amazon.com: Royce's Sailing Illustrated, Vol. 1: Tall Ship Edition (9780911284089): Patrick M. Royce: Books

Since one commentator said that not much has changed, I think I will keep on using the 1968 version (dog ears and all) and save myself $13

I'm surprised the book is still in print from Amazon.

Royce's own boat, a Columbia 24 Contender called Pink Cloud, was pretty fun:

I looked at the same model that was nearly free from the Sea Scouts in Portland, Oregon. An honest boat-- Royce claimed to have taught hundreds of people how to sail off the coast of California in theirs.
