BTW- it doesn't matter why they have an anti-gay policy, the fact of the matter is that they do.
I was not aware that the BSA had kicked out a leader who was gay. They don't go around kicking kids out; and I don't see how they could not be concerned about a gay leader since it is same-sex leadership.

It's a free country; and if someone wants to start an all-gay scout group; go for it.

I still think that Berkeley took this to an all-new low for pulling sponsorship of a group that was around before many of the city council members were born; and probably did more good to the community than they ever dreamed of.

What difference does it make how long the Sea Scouts have been receiving sponsorship from the City of Berkeley? The bottom line is that the Scouts discriminate and the City forbids spending City monies to support that kind of policy. Which I wholly applaud. Let the Sea Scouts go beg somewhere less enlightened for their handout.

One word - Tradition. Another word - Progressivism, AKA Liberalism that is undermining our VALUES.

As I have said numerous times before in this thread: The Berkeley Sea Scouts went on the record with media organizations and said that they did not and would not "discriminate" against any person who wanted to join their ship. The City of Berkeley had an issue with BSA and made this issue that was in the national spotlight a personal vendetta against a youth group that has helped THOUSANDS of kids. They destroyed their own tradition and viable youth program in the name of politics, progressivism and sensationalism. There is no program more worthy of support than scouting; particularly sea scouts. One clause and a policy that is in place to help prohibit sex crimes against children does not change the fact that Scouting does WAY WAY more good than harm to anyone. If you want a gay leadership run scout group; start your own scout program. Sorry; but the BSA does have the right to choose their members based on moral character, and it is NOT discrimination.

They used to string black people up in the name of "tradionalism". Your use of the word doesn't make the BSA policy right.

It does not make it wrong either - The supreme court upheld their oath; AND overturned the New Jersey ruling in favor of Dale, remember?

Who loses when supporters pull their funding over it? The bottom line is that it's the kids. BSA does not owe anything to the public; what they do for the public is provide educational experiences to kids.

I disagree. It is wrong to exclude based on race, color, creed or sexual orientatioN. And if those are your values, I'd say that if liberalism is undermining them, that's a good thing.

JiffyLube is on a distinguished road
Know I know why the Berkley Marina isn't allowing the Scouts, but I didn't mean to start a feud asking the question.

No feud- just a friendly discussion. ;-)

Let's remember too, that the City didn't kick the Scouts out, just refused them the free berth.
